POV DISCUSSION: Dramatoon, After School Bokbulbok

Okay people. I’ve just finished watching dramatoon, After School Bokbulbok and I’m so glad I watched it. This is unlike any other dramas, and it’s of a different genre all together. It’s stars actors from Fantagio, Kim So Eun and rookie actor group 5urprise.

This dramatoon is something like a drama & something like a manhwa. It has a total of 12 episodes, each episode is about 10-15 minutes long. They called this a dramatoon because of the different kind of format. In my opinion, I wouldn’t call it a drama. It feels like I’m reading a manhwa, but instead of reading, I’m watching one.

It’s a fresh concept, and I enjoyed it a lot. There was a lot of ridiculous humour going on, and it’s all good. Basically, it’s about a group of people in a school club (5urprise) who recruits outcast Kim So Eun to join them in their club for a special reason. What they do in the club is to pick a mission from a box and complete it. Each episode has different missions.

I’ll talk more about it and spoilers ahead!

Kim So Eun is an outcast at school and one day she receives an invitation to join a suspicious school club, made up of 5 other guys. She unwillingly join them for their missions, and sooner or later she finds herself enjoying and more relaxed. Seo Kang Joon and Gong Myung likes her, and for some reason, Kang Joon is hiding his feelings and doesn’t allow Gong Myung to like her.

MAJOR SPOILER! [ They had a friend, who passed away. He was the one who wrote the missions and recruited Kim So Eun. He liked her and asked Seo Kang Joon for the favour not to like So Eun. ] END SPOILER

I won’t explain much about the missions because that will take away the fun. But, let me tell you that the missions are ridiculous, but it’s funny.

I knew Seo Kang Joon from Suspicious Housekeeper (he had a cameo in Good Doctor also), but this is the first time I’m seeing the other members of 5urprise acting. Honestly, I didn’t even know this was an acting group. When I read Seo Kang Joon was from rookie group 5urprise, I thought it was the normal typical k-pop boygroup. I had no idea it was a group of actors.

Now that I’ve watched this, I’m looking forward to more acting projects by the members. They have great potential and are pretty good as well. Not to mention that they sing quite nicely 🙂

(Episode 5: I really love this song! If anyone knows the song, please let me know!)

You know what I’m thinking to myself? I wished that idol-themed dramas recruit these members next time, instead of other idols who just look good but sucks at acting.

Anyway, it was great seeing Kim So Eun as well. Where did you go?! Kim So Eun takes on a number of daily projects or weekend projects. Girl, you need to take on those mini series! I want to see you more!

Okay, back to story. There are no english subtitles for the dramatoon, so those who can’t understand english may or may not choose to watch, but you’ll have fun watching it if you could roughly get the gist of it. I can understand basic korean, but I can’t read hangul yet. Hahaha. So when they listed the missions on paper, I had to take out my phone and do some google translations.

The dramatoon is very light, in a sense that it really feels like you’re reading a comic. A part of me wished it was a drama instead because I really wanted to see Kang Joon and Gong Myung to battle it out for So Eun’s heart. Oh well, it was still a nice watch.

One of my favourite moments?

The boys and So Eun were in an island, with no food because they left their food on the boat. So Kang Joon gave everyone except for Gong Myung a lollipop (Gong Myung was playing his recorder, and Kang Joon told him to stop and they argued). Gong Myung gets his revenge by breaking his recorder and catching fishes. He gives everyone a fish except for Kang Joon. HAHAHA! Petty fight which turned into something a little more….shall not spoil that.

There are other cute moments which I loved. In simple terms, I like this show a lot. But don’t start the show expecting a lot of stuff. Go in without any expectations at all, and you’ll enjoy it. Think of it as a comic, not a drama.

The best part about this dramatoon? The EYE CANDIES 🙂

  1. I havent found the series at least not with subs please post or send me the link if you have it.
Thanks and i love your blog !!!♥♥

  2. The whole series has now been picked up by Drama Fever and is fully subbed. Yea!!!!
I’ve been watching a few different dramatoons and am really liking them. Admittedly I spend much of the series saying WTF? but that’s just part of the appeal.

  3. I watched this show and laughed and laughed. It made me think of Japanese shows like Ouran High School Host Club and Otomen. They are really live action anime, so you have to leave your sense of realism at the door and just go with the flow. You also have to be up for a lot of physical humor that might be painful to watch (putting out the fire in someone’s pants, anyone?).
