POV DISCUSSION: Emergency Couple Episode 7

Alright, I’m back with a discussion for Emergency Couple, because there’s too much cute I can’t resist writing about it.

Initially, I wanted to recap this drama or do episode discussions, but decided not to, because of time constraint, as well as content. Since it’s a medical-rom-com, the content to write might be boring (medical scenes). It’s fun and exciting to watch the medical scenes – but it will be boring if put into words, so I decided not to do recaps.

However, I continue to be entertained watching this drama, and I have so much fun, I think I’ll do episode discussions from this episode onwards. I’m not sure about what others think – but I really love this drama, and I’m just so happy that Song Ji Hyo picked the right project this time round ๐Ÿ™‚

So, Chang Min is slowly starting the get back his affection for Jin Hee – and it’s really cute. We never got to see how they fell in love, and what was it about each other that made them marry without their parent’s consent and blessing. We only saw how ugly their marriage had turned out.

However, Chang Min continues to be touched by Jin Hee’s actions like taking care of his mother, and saving his mother from possible death. It’s obvious that he starts looking at Jin Hee in a different light because here, as an intern, she is capable of doing things he couldn’t do, or thought of doing (the elevator incident, the hearing-problem patient). It’s a side of Jin Hee that he might have forgotten after getting married – or a side that he never knew existed.

He was always calling her ignorant during their marriage – so seeing her capable of doing things, probably sort of made his admiration of her grew.

The question is…vlcsnap-2014-02-16-10h14m35s44vlcsnap-2014-02-16-10h15m16s200vlcsnap-2014-02-16-10h15m35s136Is she going to fall in love with him?

I can totally see that Jin Hee is fond of Chief Gook – despite his harsh scoldings towards her, he is also the one who convince her that doctors are not always people who start out with a noble mission. Despite saying no, he still goes out and helps her. He seems cold and rough on the outside, but we can totally see he’s such a softie.

I love both guys, and I don’t want to bother about the ending yet because let’s give it a break – the show is only 7 episodes along, and there’s more to go. I read some mixed reviews about the show – some saying that they don’t understand the genre or the theme and is confused as to what the drama is supposed to be.

I say – who cares? I think dramas have long passed the time of being categorized into one or two fixed genre, and dramas are constantly evolving into different kind of genres and themes.

I really like this – and I don’t even know how medical and rom-com come together, but this works wonder! I’ve seen White Tower, General Hospital, Surgeon Bong Dal Hee, New Heart, The 3rd Hospital Brain, Good Doctor, Medical Top Team…etc, but none of those had a mixture of medical-rom-com. It’s either medical-melo, or medical-rom.

Don’t misunderstand, I’m not saying those medical dramas are not good – some of them are fantastic, but honestly, it’s hard to find a medical drama which balances out the ratio of medical and romance in the drama. Good Doctor was too much of a human drama – that it lacked the nervousness and seriousness of medical dramas (that’s what I feel personally). It was a good and easy watch on the eyes, heart-warming too, but it lacked good conflict.

Medical Top Team was…they had interesting characters, interesting cases – but I think they focused way too much on the politics that I got tired of it and dropped the drama.

Anyway, back to main topic – I really love Emergency Couple because the overall tone is like a romance comedy, but they still have enough medical scenes to make everything work. It just works for me ๐Ÿ™‚

And let me say this again, I am just glad that Ji Hyo picked the correct project which suits her. I felt that all her recent project in years didn’t suit her that well, but this was a great choice she made. Ahhh~ I love everyone in this ๐Ÿ™‚

Lastly, the previews look so good – Chang Min being jealous! Ah~ I can’t wait!!!

  1. hai! it’s my first time in your blog ๐Ÿ™‚

i love this drama too and i agree with all your comment, like this one:
“I read some mixed reviews about the show โ€“ some saying that they donโ€™t understand the genre or the theme and is confused as to what the drama is supposed to be. I say โ€“ who cares?”

Who cares? Haha. I just love all the cast, the story, and the comedy. Choi Jin Hyuk, omg, i love his voice!! His acting is good too!
I’m super happy to find someone who have the same thought like me ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. thank you so much for your comments on this drama!!! and i’m with you about ppl being confused with the genre of this drama. To me, all i can say that whatever category it’s under, as long as i’m entertained and there’s eye-candy (that’s a plus), I’m happy as a clam. I look forward to your comments/discussion on this drama in the future.

  3. Hello ^^ I’ve been following your blog for a while, cuz I’m watching One Warm Word and Let’s Eat, enjoying the dramas as well as reading your recap/discussion after watching the episodes (though I didn’t make it to write comments then) By the way, I don’t speak English, so plz forgive if I make any mistake.

I felt so good after watching Emergency Couple ep 7 last night, to then feel bad have to wait a week to be able to watch ep 8 == So sad, especially when the preview with a jealous Chang Min’s absolutely exciting aaaaah :”P I watched the drama cuz I like Choi Jin Hyuk, and yeah, I’m rooting for him (Chang Min) This episode he’s just so cute, make my heart flutter :”> Till now I like this ep most, and I get to like Song Ji Hyo more too (as at first I didn’t like her much) She portrays the character quite well. I wait for Chang Min’s dad joining the crew, it’ll be fun ^^

I know the show’s not very well-written, or a good medical drama or whatever, but after all, I like it, have fun watching it, and want to root for the characters. I like all the characters here. It works for me, that’ll be enough ^^

Thank you so much for the discussion and for reading my bad writing comment >< Back to wait for ep 8 and more ^^

    1. ๐Ÿ™‚ your english’s fine. Hahaha. And I don’t know who says the show is not well writen, because I like it a lot ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. I don’t want to watch the drama directly because i stay in the hospital almost all day long, it’s too boring. But i want to know the story, the rom-com part, and reading your recap is the answer. So, please write next and next and next recap.. Thanks!!!

    1. Thanks a lot ๐Ÿ™‚ I’m not sure why you’re at the hospital most of the time, but if you’re sick, I really hope you get well soon ๐Ÿ™‚ Stay strong ๐Ÿ™‚
