POV DISCUSSION: Bride of the Century Episode 1 & 2

I’m back with Bride of the Century 🙂  – and this will be my new weekly POV DISCUSSION because I’m hooked watching this 🙂

I still haven’t really decided between recaps or just discussions, I guess I’ll do it depending on each individual episode. Anyway, I welcome BOTC with much love and open arms.

It’s hard to explain my love for it – because honestly, it has all the possible k-drama clichés  you can ever think of, and it’s ridiculous in a way – but this is just too addictive. It’s very easy to watch, and I think it’s instantly likeable. It’s like an old classic piece of k-drama (because of the clichés), but an improvised version.

No recap for these two episodes (you can find the recaps if you google), but just a short introductory and a discussion on the first two episodes.

vlcsnap-2014-03-07-22h58m39s108First of all, we have Yi Kyung, who is the fiancée of Kang Joo. She’s not really haughty, and even though she seems arrogant, I don’t think she is. vlcsnap-2014-03-07-22h59m50s56vlcsnap-2014-03-07-22h59m34s145vlcsnap-2014-03-07-22h59m30s114vlcsnap-2014-03-07-23h00m11s6Poor girl gets ignored by her own fiancée and is look down by her friend, Roo Mi. Her mom wants her to bear with everything as she needs to get married with Kang Joo, for their business to sustain.

vlcsnap-2014-03-07-23h01m23s220vlcsnap-2014-03-07-23h01m21s198Roo Mi is so easy to hate because she’s arrogant and blatantly looks down on Yi Kyung , and I guess that’s why Yi Kyung seems alright.

vlcsnap-2014-03-07-23h01m12s104And our main girl is Doo Rim, who looks exactly like Yi Kyung.

vlcsnap-2014-03-07-23h02m31s125vlcsnap-2014-03-07-23h02m34s153She agrees to act out as Yi Kyung, when Yi Kyung ran off to keep her pride, so that she could have money for her grandmother’s hospital and surgery fees.

vlcsnap-2014-03-07-22h58m11s91And next – the most interesting point of the drama – the curse. I don’t know who is she, but according to the drama, there is a curse which follows Kang Joo’s family and all the first wife of the first son will die. I thought it was just a rumour – so probably fake…butvlcsnap-2014-03-07-23h00m48s119…the curse is real, and she’s real too.

vlcsnap-2014-03-07-23h03m03s192vlcsnap-2014-03-07-23h03m10s7You know the ‘I tripped and we accidentally kiss.’

vlcsnap-2014-03-07-23h04m11s105vlcsnap-2014-03-07-23h04m13s126vlcsnap-2014-03-07-23h04m12s115vlcsnap-2014-03-07-23h04m14s133vlcsnap-2014-03-07-23h04m18s177vlcsnap-2014-03-07-23h04m21s206Cute 🙂

vlcsnap-2014-03-07-23h04m58s65vlcsnap-2014-03-07-23h04m56s43When the house helpers praise Doo Rim.

vlcsnap-2014-03-07-23h05m16s244vlcsnap-2014-03-07-23h05m43s4He smiled. A little.
vlcsnap-2014-03-07-23h05m46s33vlcsnap-2014-03-07-23h05m53s101Awww. She misses her granny too 😦 and so does granny~

vlcsnap-2014-03-07-23h06m08s248vlcsnap-2014-03-07-23h06m10s10He wakes her up for the memorial.

vlcsnap-2014-03-07-23h06m29s200Somehow this happened, and Roo Mi saw it – and Kang Joo thinks Doo Rim did it on purpose to let Roo Mi see. vlcsnap-2014-03-07-23h06m40s60Roo Mi who asks Kang Joo on why he wants to marry someone he doesn’t love. vlcsnap-2014-03-07-23h06m58s241vlcsnap-2014-03-07-23h07m02s20vlcsnap-2014-03-07-23h07m11s108vlcsnap-2014-03-07-23h07m07s70vlcsnap-2014-03-07-23h07m09s96vlcsnap-2014-03-07-23h07m14s137vlcsnap-2014-03-07-23h07m19s189Well, at least Kang Joo feels a little bit guilty.

vlcsnap-2014-03-07-23h07m49s231vlcsnap-2014-03-07-23h07m52s8Doo Rim who gets scolded by Ji Hyun Oppa for doing things without thinking of Yi Kyung.

vlcsnap-2014-03-07-23h08m42s0vlcsnap-2014-03-07-23h08m38s218Doo Rim ‘saves’ Kang Joo from a flying tomato. What’s with the look dude?

Okay – I know this discussion and those descriptions are damn lazily written. Hah. Sorry guys – but I’m just sleepy and tired from a day’s work. I can’t put it off to tomorrow because there’s a whole lot of other things to do.

Let’s just get straight to the point – I’m honestly really pleased that dramas are slowly changing. They’re re-using ideas, but they change it here and there, tweak it a little bit and it turns out to be something new and fun. Dramas are no longer categorized into a fixed one or two genre. They can include a combination of different genres, yet it works.

Why I think BOTC works is probably because there’s  A LOT of things we don’t know. This creates curiosity and an interest, so I guess that’s why watching the drama was actually kind of fun, and I’m left with so many questions, I need more episodes!

Yi Kyung – is she really the daughter of Jae Ran? The sister of Yi Hyun? At certain parts, I feel as though she isn’t related to them, but at other scenes when Jae Ran misses her, it seems like they are mother and daughter. Yi Hyun seems to like her, more than a brother does – but I don’t know. It might just be me.

The drama leads seems to be Doo Rim, Kang Joo and Yi Kyung. Wait…what? I thought it would be Doo Rim, Kang Joo & Roo Mi as I watched the first two episodes – but I guess not. I mean…just don’t pull a *coughs* summon you gold *coughs* What’s the point of Roo Mi then if we have Yi Kyung to hate on in the later episodes? Oh well, we’ll see.

Acting wise, I think everyone is doing good in their own roles. This is also probably FT Island’s Lee Hongki’s first serious main role. Honestly, I couldn’t stop laughing as I saw him act – no, he’s not funny. It’s just that it’s so weird seeing him being that cold, arrogant, chaebol when in reality, he’s just a prankster.

Now, before any of you come hating on me – let me clarify this, I love FT Island, and I’m a fan. I’ve been with them since their debut, or rather I got into kpop because of them. I heard their song ‘Lovesick’ one night over the radio when it randomly played and fell in love with Hongki’s voice instantly. And they just happen to debut. So practically, I’ve been into them since then. Anyway, I don’t think Primadonnas are that childish anyway to hate on me, right? Hehe 🙂

I think Hongki’s actually doing alright. He doesn’t seem awkward, his facial expressions are good – not blank. I just found him a little too short to play a CEO – I mean, hey, mostly all k-drama CEOs are tall, okay? So blame them for setting the standard. Hahaha. But he grows on me as the character Kang Joo – and I really do hope to view Hongki as the actor Hongki at the end of the drama, instead of FT Island’s vocalist Hongki.

Anyway, it’s weekends – so new episodes airing and I’m just happy 🙂 And do tune in to the OST which Jaejin sang 🙂

[Okay. I just realized Episode 3 & 4 was out already. How stupid. Hahahahaha. Shall watch it soon!]
