I finally watched the first episode, and unlike what I expected, it’s slightly better. I was all prepared for the usual over-the-top plots and fighting, which usually comes along as a set with such genres, but it’s not as bad as I thought it would be.
I think the first episode pretty much sum up everything for us, and I’m actually quite surprised myself that in just one episode, I love the relationship between Seo In Ae and Han Kwang Chul.
The first 5 minutes of the drama was pretty intense, and because the drama would probably get more intense and full of angst, I would probably stick to watching one episode per day.
The first few minutes is actually a scene of Kwang Chul (Jung Kyung Ho) chasing a police car where In Ae (Hwang Jung Eum) is in, and it ends with Kwang Chul falling into the water. We then get a flashback to when In Ae is actually still a child.
She was back from a church with her Aunt, when a mysterious man in a car drove off – and his ring stayed in her memory. They went back home to find that her mother and cousin is dead.
We then go back to the current timeline (but before the chasing incident).
In Ae and Kwang Chul hang around each other – in fact they live together ever since she was 5 years old. Their elders know each other, so after In Ae’s mother and cousin died, they moved in with Kwang Chul’s family.
They’re so cute around each other – not in romantic way, but like how best friends are. Kwang Chul and everyone else, knows that In Ae likes Kwang Hoon, who is currently away studying. In Ae receives news that he’s coming back, and is excited.
Anyway, In Ae and Kwang Chul helps a group of acquaintances to hide at an island after they committed arson. They do it out of loyalty, at first, and only realized that things are not so simple.
Before that, the brothers are not on good terms – and I’m not sure why. I’m actually not cool with the way Kwang Hoon treats Kwang Chul. How awkward must it be for In Ae, that her sweetheart ‘hates’ her best friend.
Of course, I don’t know if Kwang Hoon really hates his brother, just because Kwang Chul is a bad student and slightly more rebellious compared to him, but that’s not exactly a good reason to hate on your own sibling. He even told Kwang Chul to go down alone and not to drag In Ae along, which is pretty offensive if I am In Ae. I mean – such an accusation is pretty rude, and I’m sure In Ae is a fully grown adult who can think and make decisions for herself.
Okay – so back to story. The arson case is bigger than they thought, and the government is trying to find the culprits, and those who help them will be jailed. Kwang Chul’s dad, somehow got dragged into the case, and everyone is on their toes.
The episode ended with [SPOILER] Kwang Chul’s dad drowning in the middle of the sea. [END SPOILER]

THOUGHTS & DISCUSSION
Okay – is there a possibility that Park Young Tae is In Ae’s real dad? I read somewhere that there is a birth secret revolving around In Ae, so there’s quite actually a chance that she’s Young Tae’s child. However, it might also be that In Ae’s real dad is someone who is in the opposite side of Young Tae, thus Young Tae killed her mother and her cousin, probably thinking it was her.
We’ll leave that mystery for later.
I just love how close In Ae and Kwang Chul are – and it’s so sweet, yet sad because Kwang Chul likes her on his own. They always say that when you’re too close, you can’t see what others see – or however that phrase goes. In Ae probably doesn’t realize how much Kwang Chul means to her yet, and that once he’s gone, she’ll probably feel the emptiness.
It’s all fine with me that she likes Kwang Hoon, and Kwang Hoon is not a bad guy – and they’re sweet around each other too. However, he’s a little too overbearing for my liking.
As to the relationship between Young Tae and Kwang Chul’s dad – we’ll find out soon enough, and I think the next few episodes will be filled with angst and heartbreak. I need time and I shall not rush. One episode per day. I hope the drama doesn’t go overboard with the whole birth secret or politics, because I don’t really last long in such a drama. Hahahaha.
