Okay – I’ve been wanting to write about this, but I had to watch a few episodes first before actually writing up the post.
I’ve watched the latest episode, and as of now, I do like the show. It’s intriguing in a way, but it’s not exactly without flaws. In fact, if I were to point out, there are quite a number of things I didn’t really like – but still as a whole, I do like the drama so far.
There’s quite a lot of things I want to talk about – and this would probably be a lengthy post.
THOUGHTS & DISCUSSION
Okay – so we have Eun Bi and Eun Byul who are twins, who grew up in different places. Eun Byul is aware of Eun Bi’s existence and has been sending letters, in her mother’s name to Eun Bi.
Eun Bi attempted suicide after severe bullying, but was saved. She loses her memory, and thinks that she is Eun Byul, where as Eun Byul goes missing. When Eun Bi regains her memories, she realized that she isn’t Eun Byul – and found out that Eun Byul died in her place. Eun Byul’s mom tells her to continue living as Eun Byul, despite knowing she is Eun Bi.
First of all, I don’t like the twins set-up. I was confused, watching the first episode. It wasn’t bad…. but I wasn’t expecting it. I understand however, that this might be a crucial step in the drama, if done correctly.
The story isn’t just simply Eun Bi living a new life and getting revenge against her bully. It’s more of discovering who exactly was Eun Byul.
However, it’s probably going to be really difficult to make this whole mystery intriguing, yet making the drama interesting and watchable at the same time.
It’s inevitable that people are going to compare it to previous School series, and yes I am guilty of that too. Sometimes I just wish that the drama should have taken a more straight-forward approach like School 2013. But then again, being different can sometimes do wonders.
Anyway, I’m officially on this boat after finishing the 4th episode because Taekwang and Eun Bi is too cute to resist.
Okay – let’s talk about the drama.
What was it that she’s hiding? Who is Soo In and why even Eun Byul’s mother avoided the topic?
Well, we know at least this much. Soo In probably died a year ago – and she’s someone that Eun Byul and Teacher Kim know. Apparently, both of them seems to have been receiving text messages from “Soo In”.
That’s also the reason why Eun Byul was afraid and running away from – but we have no idea who is the one sending her those messages and following her around.
But the big question is really…. why?
Did Eun Byul bully Soo In when she was alive, which made Soo In committed suicide (if she did)? Or were they friends and something bad happened?
Eun Byul doesn’t seem like she’s the kind who would bully others, even though she appears as rude.
I also wonder what is the connection between Soo In and Taekwang’s dad. It seems like there might be a connection. When Teacher Kim went to confront Taekwang’s dad, he mentioned that he liked to rationalize his reasons, just like a year ago. Did his rationalizing caused Soo In her life?
Putting Soo In aside, we still haven’t figure out – who was at the toilet with Eun Byul when she went missing. The scar on her neck was there when she met Yi Han, and that was before the toilet scene. So basically, some time during the trip or before the trip, she got injured. How did she get the scar?
It’s impossible to get that scar without seeing the face of the attacker, but if she had seen the person, then why did she look so shocked at the toilet?
Not just that – apparently, she “saved” Eun Bi in the water – or rather she was found in the same water when Eun Bi had jumped into. Now question – who saved Eun Bi? Was it really Eun Byul? But how? How did she end up there and saving Eun Bi? If it wasn’t her – how did she still end up there, and why is she dead? Or is she even dead?
There is a thought bugging me though… did Eun Bi and Eun Byul get to meet each other? Eun Bi lost her memories and we could assume she didn’t fully recover everything yet… what if… they had met at that bridge? Besides there’s got to be a reason why Eun Byul’s scarf was with Eun Bi when she was found and how Eun Byul even ended up there, and in the water.
Alright – that’s the questions and the endless mystery.
Next, let’s talk about the characters 🙂
Honestly, I’m really surprised by Sungjae. I watched Plus Nine Boys and his acting there really didn’t do it for me – but this is priceless. Maybe it’s his hair color, or his role, or whatever – but I simply love Taekwang and his antics.
His character is by far, the most interesting to me. No one at school takes him seriously, and he goes around doing crazy or meaningless things – until Eun Bi appears.
I could understand why he was attracted to Eun Bi – she’s friendly and warm, and she takes him seriously when they are talking. You know, the kind of feeling when you’re talking to a stranger and that amazing feeling when that stranger and you could totally connect and understand each other.
I love how Eun Bi’s appearance actually changes him and his attitude. Instead of just living aimlessly, he make his own choices – like telling his father he is not going overseas to study, or actually sitting up in class to figure out the relationship between Eun Bi and So Young.
While the others probably just treat her as they normally do, what they don’t know is that the Eun Byul they knew no longer exist. Even if Eun Bi was really Eun Byul – she lost her memories, which means that she has no recollection at all. It would have been very confusing and difficult adjusting, even though Eun Bi is all smiles and trying to go back as ‘normal’.
However, when Eun Bi realizes that she is not Eun Byul, it would have been much harder as she has to be the person she isn’t and she has to live up to her friends expectations of her – because she is ‘Eun Byul.’
The fact that Taekwang and Eun Byul wasn’t on talking terms, made things easier for Eun Bi to actually speak to Taekwang, because he had no prior impressions of her, except for the fact that she was rude, therefore, there is no such expectations of her and she doesn’t have to be burden by anything.
To be honest, I find his character weak. Unlike Taekwang’s character which has many sides, so far Yi Han didn’t show much for the past 6 episodes, besides the fact that he likes Eun Byul.
It’s really strange though. The last time he talked to Eun Byul was when they had argued and she told him that she was no longer the Eun Byul which he knew from young.
Now that ‘Eun Byul’ is back – why isn’t he wondering what was bothering her at that time? Even when Eun Bi asked Yi Han if she had mentioned anything about being followed or harrassed, Yi Han said she didn’t.
I mean – isn’t it normal to be curious? But why isn’t Yi Han thinking about it? Is he afraid that she would want to break off with him like that night? Is he trying to make things to be like they were when they were young?
I understand where he’s coming from. They were childhood friends, best friends – and he probably shares everything with Eun Byul. In his mentality, there wouldn’t be anything to hide from him, because there wouldn’t be anything which will change their relationship.
However, what he fails to understand is that – in the time when he wasn’t around her, perhaps when he was busy with swimming competitions, there were things which happened, and Eun Byul is not the Eun Byul from young. There are things that she didn’t share, and she was clearly having a difficult time, which Yi Han was oblivious to.
Now, even with Eun Bi – he still hasn’t learnt the key point. He shouldn’t expect answers to just be given to him when asked, and he should start paying attention to what is happening around him. Sometimes, when someone is having a hard time, the last thing they want is someone who keep questioning what is wrong. We don’t want to talk about it. Period. Just be there with her. Silently. That’s more than enough. When she’s ready, she would tell you.
I really hope Yi Han steps his game, because all I see is Taekwang-Eun Bi shippers, and I am one too. It would be better if Yi Han actually steps his game, but doesn’t end up with Eun Bi.
You know – it could be he will fully understand that Eun Bi is not Eun Byul, and even then, Eun Byul was not the same young Eun Byul, and maybe he could fall for Song Joo instead – but remain good friends with Eun Bi.
She’s got to be the most irritating student-bully character I’ve ever watched in kdramas. I really hate her so much (I don’t hate the actress! Don’t misunderstand!) that I feel like punching the screen each time.
But you know how a bad villain always makes a show more interesting? Yup. I can’t wait to see what will happen in upcoming episodes, now that the classmates have found out that she was a bully.
Soo Young is intelligent, and manipulative – and I can’t wait for her karma – what it feels like to be on the receiving end of being outcast.
I can’t wait for the next episode!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Okay that’s about all. I would probably do episode discussions for this, though I’m not sure if I would do 2 episodes per post or 1 for each episode. It depends… anyway, MONDAY PLS COME SOON!!!
