POV DISCUSSION: She Was Pretty Episode 5 & 6

Alright back with a discussion for Episode 5 & 6 🙂

Sung Joon is slowly realizing that the Hye Jin he once knew is no longer the same and yet another Hye Jin somehow reminds him of the old Hye Jin. Ha Ri decides to go all out to try to win Sung Joon’s heart – or maybe more appropriately, she is doing whatever she can to spend more time with Sung Joon, even if it means faking her identity.

How long will it last – nobody knows. I hope it won’t take too long for the reveal, but at least enough time for Sung Joon to fall for Hye Jin as Hye Jin – and not as his first love. Besides, we also have another thing to worry about – how is Shin Hyuk’s existence going to complicate the already complicated relationship between the characters?

First of all – we find out that Shin Hyuk is aware of Hye Jin’s secret. Turns out that she blurted everything out when she was drunk. Rather than being worried, Hye Jin was thankful that at least she has someone to talk about it.

I love it when Shin Hyuk stops fooling around and be serious when the situation calls for it. When Hye Jin referred to her current self as pathetic unlike her old self, we could see that Shin Hyuk doesn’t understand why she would think so – and praises her that she is still pretty. Awwww ❤

I’m also excited to see how would Ha Ri and Shin Hyuk’s relationship develop – would they be friends? would he be her pretend-boyfriend? As Hye Jin and Sung Joon will most likely end up together, I hope that these two will somehow get their happy ending too. Or if drama decides to gives a twist – I’m totally fine with an alternative OTP too.

Anyway – Shin Hyuk told Ha Ri to give her best shot at it since love is about being crazy anyway. That’s actually a very useful advise – though you still can’t follow it blindly in all situations, like for example if it was a married man, or a minor – which is also why Shin Hyuk asked for the reason why was it so wrong for her to see that man.

The question is, is Ha Ri wrong to pursue Sung Joon?

I guess it depends on how you look at it. I love Ha Ri so far – and it honestly saddens me that she actually took that puzzle piece to convince Sung Joon she is Hye Jin.

However, as I watched her scenes – she knows that it will end one day, but despite that, she wants to do it till the end. I wouldn’t say that she wants to win over Sung Joon’s heart. Rather, I think that she just wants to do her best at that present moment when she is with him. However, now might be too early to say because we never know what’s going to happen in future episodes.

Anyway, Sung Joon unknowingly smiles because of Hye Jin and while we know Hye Jin still likes him, Sung Joon is probably falling for Hye Jin too.

vlcsnap-2015-10-02-23h18m59s463vlcsnap-2015-10-02-23h19m07s541But why would Sung Joon not piece the puzzle together, despite having the missing piece?

We hear a voiceover from his doctor (I assume it’s his doctor?) that extreme stress could make him remember his trauma , and also about how anyone would have changed in 15 years. The person told Sung Joon to forget about his past and concentrate on the present.

Is that what Sung Joon is trying to do? Despite meeting Ha Ri (whom he thinks is Hye Jin), strangely she feels different from who he thought he knew. In addition, he feels somehow attracted to Hye Jin, in a subtle kind of way.

So most likely he’s confused but seeing that he threw away the onion, I guess he’s trying to push Hye Jin away from his thoughts.

vlcsnap-2015-10-02-23h19m44s232vlcsnap-2015-10-02-23h19m46s958But oh well, we know that it will be impossible given that they’ll be on a trip together and seeing the previews, it shows that they will only get closer ❤

Okay – first of all, I need to mention it, I love this drama. I do. Really.

However, something about the drama makes me feel a little disconnected. I’m not sure how to put it in words – but the way the drama moves from one extreme mood to the other, sometimes make me feel a little weird.

vlcsnap-2015-10-02-23h14m32s886vlcsnap-2015-10-02-23h14m39s953Sometimes, I feel that the comedy scenes are too random (though they are always funny to watch), and that Sung Joon’s personality is too inconsistent.

I don’t expect Sung Joon character to be the same throughout the series but sometimes I feel that his character change is too abrupt. One moment he’s being distant and harsh – the next moment he’s not really that bad, and sometimes he’s a ‘joke’ to watch. The character’s transition doesn’t feel smooth, in a way.

So far, that’s my only issue. It’s not exactly a bad thing and I still love the drama a lot 🙂 I guess we’ll have to wait and see more episodes down the road to see how it goes.

  1. I agree!! I’m really enjoying this drama but Sung Joon’s character is so weird. It’s like he has multiple personalities (no pun intended :P). And I feel more connected to the second leads than the main leads. But I really love the characters and I’m looking forward to where the story is going.
