Things take a nasty turn and tears are shed. The latest episode where Court Lady Oh sacrificed herself is nothing short of beautiful. Loyalties and feelings are tested against reality and in this important moment is where everyone shows their true colors and their choices.
Will this be the turning point in the drama?
There are a couple of things which happened, such as 8th prince turning his back on Hae Soo and Court Lady Oh’s death. I would expect Hae Soo to finally understand that life is the palace is not as easy as it may seem. Court Lady Oh’s death is more than enough reason for her to finally learn the hard way that every step in the palace is like walking on thin ice.
It doesn’t matter how sincere, kind or loyal you are. It doesn’t matter what kind of person you are, as long as you are living in the palace, anything and anyone could be used against you. One wrong move, even if it isn’t yours, could mean death. And sometimes, having unnecessary attention can bring death as well.

Yes! This was what I was waiting for! Finally~
Things gets more interesting and exciting as Hae Soo finally realizes that 4th is Gwangjong of Goryeo, who is known to be a cruel ruler. Complicated emotions and relationships; consequences of every little action…
Will she just stand and do nothing, or will she try to change fate? But the real question is whether they can avoid fate…?

I feel that things are finally starting to move forward but I’m still not sure what kind of drama Scarlet Heart Ryeo wants to be. I’ll discuss about this in a while.
So Hae Soo finally enters the palace, though it was really weird that she was betroth to the King. Well, at least we know the King was only doing it for political reasons and not that he really needed another wife.
I’m still confused by Ji Mong’s existence. I’m not sure what kind of role he’s supposed to be in the drama. Will he just simply be the astronomer? Or is the drama trying to make him a character which knows Hae Soo is from the future – or something along those lines?

Okay, it’s time to get to work. The best part about BBJX was that the famous battle for the throne can be read online and there’s plenty of information which works the same way as a drama synopsis.
So I did a little digging into Goryeo’s history to see what we can find. There wasn’t much information available honestly – so it doesn’t help much and we still don’t know what’s in store for us in the drama.
Those watching the drama and do not wish to read spoilers – DON’T CONTINUE READING.

Are we finally getting somewhere?
And I’m back with another discussion on the latest two episodes of Scarlet Heart Ryeo. I find that we’re finally getting somewhere though I still feel that it could have done much more to the story.
We’re 5 episodes in and looking back, there isn’t much story development so far. I still find the pace a little bit too slow for my liking and I wished we have gotten here much sooner. Not forgetting that this is a 21-episode sageuk so I think wishing the plot to move along at a quicker pace is not entirely unreasonable.
I find myself bored at certain scenes where some of the characters just exchanges dialogues which doesn’t add much story or impact to the plot.

The much awaited drama, Scarlet Heart Ryeo, finally aired and I’m…. not liking it. There are a few different reasons why I didn’t like it and I won’t deny that I’m probably a little bias towards it since it is after all an adaptation of popular Chinese drama, Bu Bu Jing Xin. I think they did mention they were using the novel and not the drama – but either way, the novel and the Chinese drama is pretty similar.
First of all, way before the drama aired, I was already worried due to the casts. Sure, it’s great eye candy – but whether the actors have the capabilities to bring out the individual roles is a different thing.
It’s impossible for me not to compare Scarlet Heart Ryeo with Bu Bu Jing Xin. As much as I try to, I cannot help it. So I’m pretty sure people get annoyed at me trying to pinpoint all the things Scarlet Heart Ryeo didn’t manage to get right, but that’s okay. I understand and even I think I might sound a little overbearing when discussing about this drama.
