Okay people, let me cry my eyes out. It’s really the drama season right now :’) Almost all of the newly airing dramas are so much fun to watch. It’s such a big contrast compared to the all the dramas which started airing sometime back. It’s as though everything was average, and nothing was fantastic. Now, there’s so much fantastic stuff going on and I cannot control all my excitement.

I’ve watched the first two episodes of Marriage Not Dating, and it’s so much fun and full of awesomeness.

I didn’t expect so much heart in the drama, given that it’s a romantic comedy, I thought it would be the typical rom-com, but at the end of the second episode, I was just amazed at how the episode ended, because it was sort of sweet and warm. It’s kind of difficult to put it in words, but I think this is going to be an awesome ride.

EPISODE ONE & TWO

vlcsnap-2014-07-07-00h16m15s203vlcsnap-2014-07-07-00h16m25s43First, let’s meet out leads. Joo Jang Mi (Han Groo) is keen on marrying her boyfriend, Lee Hoo Dong (Huh Jung Min) but Hoo Dong uses his friend, Gong Ki Tae (Yun Woo Jin) to avoid Jang Mi and the topic of marriage.

Jang Mi refuses to think that Hoo Dong wants a break up, despite him being out of contact for a week, but it’s Ki Tae who shoves the cruel fact in her face. He tells her that just like how she wanted him for his money, he wanted her for her face and body.

vlcsnap-2014-07-07-00h16m30s99vlcsnap-2014-07-07-00h16m12s173Jang Mi is upset and she splashed juice on his face and says that it wasn’t for the money, but she really did love him before leaving in tears. Han Yeo Reum (Jung Jin Woo) is someone who’s working in Hoo Dong’s restaurant.

vlcsnap-2014-07-07-00h17m53s158vlcsnap-2014-07-07-00h17m50s126vlcsnap-2014-07-07-00h18m17s147vlcsnap-2014-07-07-00h18m16s132Jang Mi gets drunk and goes to Hoo Dong’s restaurant to confront him on sending her a text to break up. She is beyond pissed that he chooses to send a text to break up. He runs off and hides in the bathroom, and call the cops saying that there is a stalker.

vlcsnap-2014-07-07-00h18m26s236vlcsnap-2014-07-07-00h18m36s75vlcsnap-2014-07-07-00h18m47s190Jang Mi manages to open the bathroom door, and finally after looking at his face, she realizes that all these while she was the only one who was in love.

Okay, a certain situation occurred and Ki Tae’s mom mistakes Jang Mi as Gi Tae’s girlfriend. She blackmails him to bring her home, or she will take back the place he’s currently staying in.

Ki Tae convinces Jang Mi to play along for some time.

vlcsnap-2014-07-07-00h05m54s142Ki Tae’s plan was to bring Jang Mi home, so that his mother would disapprove of her and stop thinking of making him marry or going on blind dates anymore. So Jang Mi ends up visiting his house, still hungover from clubbing the night.

vlcsnap-2014-07-07-00h06m41s100vlcsnap-2014-07-07-00h06m45s134vlcsnap-2014-07-07-00h06m47s152And it’s so hilarious, because as his mother was talking – she FELL ASLEEP.

Ki Tae invites Jang Mi to come along to a charity auction to convince his mother that they indeed are dating, and he wants news to spread.

vlcsnap-2014-07-07-00h08m09s206vlcsnap-2014-07-07-00h08m26s121However at the auction, Jang Mi is left alone, and she goes to grab food. She bumps into Yeo Reum, who mentions that he heard she is naturally kind to everyone. She retorts that he didn’t like her either (Jang Mi flirted with him a little to make Hoo Dong jealous after the break up, and picked out the clothes he’s wearing currently). He tells her not to judge people so quickly, and doesn’t let her put any food on her plate.

vlcsnap-2014-07-07-00h08m36s220vlcsnap-2014-07-07-00h08m33s191vlcsnap-2014-07-07-00h08m29s152She asks why is he doing so, and he says it’s not fun anymore that she’s becoming like Hoo Dong, before putting the plate of food in her hand.

So – back to the auction event.

It’s an event where the males stand on the stage, and the woman bid for them. Ki Tae reluctantly stands on the stage, and Yeo Reum stands on it spontaneously. Hoo Dong comments that he should be on it too, and stands on the stage.

Everyone is successful ‘bought’ over, and Hoo Dong is the last one. No one bids for him, and Jang Mi bids for him at $10. He refuses, and agrees to dunk in the water for a higher bid and not to be ‘bought’ over by Jang Mi.

He jumps into the water, and the hosts ask if anyone is willing to take him. No one responds, and he is shivering inside the pool, looking pathetic.

vlcsnap-2014-07-07-00h11m08s201She holds his hand and get him out of the water.

vlcsnap-2014-07-07-00h11m28s151vlcsnap-2014-07-07-00h11m31s178She tells Ki Tae that she wants out of their deal, and no longer wants revenge against Hoo Dong. He offers to send her home, but she refuses. He tells her to wait while he get towels.

vlcsnap-2014-07-07-00h11m43s42vlcsnap-2014-07-07-00h11m44s53She wants to walk away, when Yeo Reum calls out to her.

THOUGHTS & DISCUSSION

It was a wonderful first two episodes. It had it’s fair share of comedy, yet manages to be warm and fuzzy. I love all the characters already. Okay, maybe not all, but at least most.

I don’t blame Hoo Dong for being such a jerk – because I think he really has some sort of fear of marriage, thus avoiding it. I can’t wait till he voluntarily wants marriage. It’s just too bad that Jang Mi is not the right girl for him. However, even so, I think he’s touched that she pulled him out of the pool -but that doesn’t do anything to their relationship.

Jang Mi is honest, and straight-forward, who sincerely wants to get married. She’s upset that Hoo Dong avoided her to break up with her by disappearing, and eventually hearing the truth from a 3rd party, and a text from him. She initially wants to get back at Hoo Dong, but decided not to.

Ki Tae is already slowly seeing the good points of Jang Mi. To him, most women wants something from a man – be it money or something else. He knows that Jang Mi is sincere with her love with Hoo Dong, and eventually helps her out to get back at him. He always notices that she’s kind – and he tells her that she acts that way because she wants love from others. She argues that there’s nothing bad about it, and tells him to treat his mother better, as she probably wants love too.

Anyway – when the episode ended and we hear Jang Mi narrating that sometimes it’s nice just to have someone around. That just leaves a warm and fuzzy feeling, because it’s true. Sometimes, having that one person when we’re feeling down- be it anyone, a friend, a stranger or an acquaintance, it makes us feel better.

I can’t wait for the next episode, because clearly Ki Tae’s mom is going to push through a marriage, probably – either she really wants it, or she knows they’re acting.

And I can’t wait to be swoon over by both Ki Tae and Yeo Reum ❤

Of course, Han Sun Hwa’s & Yoon So Hee’s acting is still awkward to me, but that didn’t really bothered me so much, because the drama was still an enjoyable watch 🙂

  1. OMG Thankkk Youuuuu!! You love this drama as well 😛 I was in a drama slump and I just saw this so decided to watch it but I love it! It’s quite predictable but I don’t care cause it’s just awesome. BTW i dunno but if your into Taiwanese dramas you should watch Love Myself or You its awesome and I’m sure you’ll love it.

    1. I think I read somewhere about that tw drama being a good watch. I will considering trying out 🙂 I WISH WE HAVE MORE THAN 24 HOURS A DAY, HONESTLY. Hahahaha.

  2. I laughed throughout the meet-the-mom scene even though it wasn’t completely dubbed. I also liked how the dad thinks she is funny and the grandma is loving the idea that the mom was probably seething underneath her polite exterior. I really want to get more backstory on this family. What “is” going on between the mom and dad? Clearly, there is much more going on there.

    1. OH YES! They’re a weird family – and there’s probably some sort of reason for him to be so against his mom, and his mom mentioned that the house he lived in doesn’t have good memories anyway. Can’t wait to see what’s all of those about 🙂

  3. I think we really had the same taste in korean dramas, had fun with Warm Words and Let’s Eat, and now with Marriage Not Dating. Hihi.
